Elite Play Academy is a home-based program that provides cooperative group learning and play experiences to children in the Fort Bend area.
Elite Play Academy classes are organized so students develop the skills they need to be successful when working with others to meet a common goal. Activities are intentionally planned so that students need each other to accomplish common tasks or learning activities.
The goal of Elite Play Academy is for kids to be kids while learning to work with other kids of similar age. At EPA play will be used to develop executive functioning, emotional intelligence, and soft skills through collaboration.
The essential components of cooperative learning and play are as follows:
Positive Interdependence: The child understands that working together is individually and collectively beneficial, and success depends on the participation of all the members.
Promotive Interaction: Also know as face-to-face- The child promotes other’s success by helping, assisting, supporting, encouraging, and praising group member’s efforts to learn.
Individual Accountability: The child is a stronger individual because they experienced cooperative learning groups.
Interpersonal and Small-Group Skills: The child will learn the subject matter they are working on (taskwork) as well as interpersonal and small-group skills required to function as part of a team (teamwork).
Group Processing: The members of the group discuss how well they are achieving their goals and maintaining effective working relationships. Groups need to describe what actions are helpful and unhelpful and make decisions about what behaviors to continue or change.

Shelly Stasney (Instructor)
Howdy! I’m Mrs. Shelly. I am a wife and mother to 2 boys. I have a Masters in Education, ESL, and I am Certified to be a Principal. Before having children, I worked in public education for 15+ years. I had a wide variety of roles in education including, classroom teacher, reading intervention, math intervention, Reading Coach, teaching professional development, ESL intervention, Gifted and Talented classroom teacher, and District Interventionist. I worked in a private school for 3 years while attending college. I am passionate about education and grateful for all of my experiences.
I have taken what I learned in these experiences and applied them in my own family. We have decided to homeschool our children. Through this experience, the idea for Elite Play Academy was born. I want to provide my children with the collaborative play and learning experiences that I provided my ex-students. These are skill sets that are important to the development of executive functioning skills, emotional intelligence and other soft skills children develop when collaborating with each other.
I would love to have your child join us in using play to develop these skills.
